Throughout his time in the legislature, Dan has championed a wide variety of important causes, including expanding skilled trades opportunities, providing record funding for local schools, making state government more accountable, and supporting reforms to cut auto insurance rates.

Prior to his time in the legislature, Dan founded Eastern Michigan Grain in 1993 and led the company through 2013. Dan knows firsthand how to create jobs, build a successful hometown business, and the impact that tax and regulatory issues have not only on small businesses themselves, but on their employees and the community.

He previously worked for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the National Milk Producers Federation. Lauwers also served as a legislative assistant in Washington D.C. to former Congressman Bill Schuette.

As a husband and a father, Dan and his wife Kellie have raised three children and want their generation to be able to have the same great opportunities to live, work and raise a family in Michigan.

Lauwers earned a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics with an emphasis on marketing from Michigan State University. Dan and Kellie live on the family farm in Brockway Township.
